First industrial Box PC in the Ivy League

The independent German distributor acceed introduces the first PCs worldwide with an Ivy Bridge processor for industrial use with its new ECS-7000 series fanless Box Computers. With their 3rd generation quad core processors, up to 6 GB RAM, six GbE LAN connections, a large number of interfaces and optional extensions, these embedded controllers provide maximum performance within the smallest of spaces within the extended temperature range from -25 to +70 °C.

The Ivy Bridge technology is on its way into industrial applications. acceed, with its new ECS-7000 series, is the pioneer of the worldwide first Ivy Bridge chip in industrial Box PCs. Intel uses 3D Tri-Gate technology for the Ivy Bridge chips and constructs transistors instead of planar height arrangement. This enables the even tighter wrapping of complex switching than has been possible so far. Intel developed new series 7 chipsets for Ivy Bridge processors. The most important innovation is the integrated USB 3.0 controller with up to four connections. Ivy Bridge processors transmit data to other components such as the graphic card via PCI express 3.0. The data flows at up to 16 gigabytes per second and therefore twice as fast as to-date using PCIe 2.0. The graphic chip HD Graphics 4000 integrated in the processor supports DirectX 11 and enables the connection of up to three monitors.

The ECS-7000 series IPCs work fanless and can be used in the temperature range from-25 to +70 °C. This extreme temperature range is achieved by the optimised coolers: all components which generate heat are placed spread on one side of the board and connected directly to the heat sink in the casing, enabling optimum heat dissipation at all times. The performance remains constant and the casing consisting of high-quality aluminium on the outside is always under the critical limit of 50 °C under normal ambient conditions.

The third generation of Intel's quad core processor (6 MB cache, up to 3.3 GHz) further increases the controllers' performance level and integrates the state-of-the art graphic chip HD Graphics 4000 simultaneously. The ECS-7000 is therefore reliably and safely able, for example, to decode several full HD videos and to output them to the three monitor connections (DP, DVI-D and VGA) at the same time. The superior processing speed predestines the device for video inspection tasks.

The type DDR3RL and DDR3 memory offers up to 16 GB RAM. Isolated digital I/O interfaces, four serial interfaces, four USB 3.0 connections, two USB-2.0 connections, JST connection and two mini PCIe connections (of which one has an SIM card slot for WLAN, 3G/GPRS) provide all the prerequisites for sophisticated controller solutions. This means that the ECS-7000 series Box PCs are excellently equipped for machine vision, imaging via gigabit Ethernet, intelligent automation, monitoring and a wide range of embedded development applications.

The dimensions of the casing are 260 × 79 × 175 mm and it weighs 2.8 kg. A mounting bracket for wall installation is supplied. The SATA-III slot for 2.5" HDD or SSD is accessible from the front. The voltage range from 6 to 36 volts also opens areas of use in the mobile area such as intelligent transport systems or car PCs.
