### 4. Functionality

The PXI-8565 functions as the PXI™-side controller in the PCIe-8560/PXI-8565 Extension Kit. The system operates as a transparent PCI Express® to PXI™ bridge, allowing the host computer to communicate directly with PXI™ modules in a remote chassis.

Operational Principle:
1. The PCIe-8560 card is installed in the host computer’s PCI Express® x1 slot.
2. The PXI-8565 card is installed in the PXI™ chassis system slot.
3. Both cards are connected via a shielded twisted-pair cable (1 m, 3 m, or 7 m).
4. The PCIe-8560 transmits PCI Express® signals to the PXI-8565, which converts them into standard PCI signals for the PXI™ backplane.
5. The system operates transparently, with the host BIOS automatically detecting and assigning resources to PXI™ modules.

Use Cases and Applications:
- Automated test and measurement systems
- Industrial process control and monitoring
- High-density I/O expansion for embedded systems
